O-Pods

The Pods are fully installed on site by the same joiners who have built them; from welding the frame to applying each and every shingle individually (this process alone takes about three days). Each pod is built bespoke to your requirements, including window orientation, door style, GRP shade and even the flooring is designed around you!

Ground Preparation

The O-Pod is designed to sit on concrete pads which we provide when we install the Pod. It is essential however to ensure that the base is sufficiently level, firm and dry. Ground works may be required prior to installation should the intended site have excess soil movement, uneven ground or flooding! If you are in doubt, please send us some photos of your intended location and we shall advise you on possible groundworks required. It is reccommended that hardcore or concrete is laid before we arrive should you have any doubts about the suitability of the ground. Access is critical, we do need at least 1m width and 3m height to gain access to the site as large panels are carried in by hand. It is advisable to check your access route prior to installation and remove obstacles such as overhanging tree limbs and gate posts should they look likely to present a problem for our installations team. We will naturally carry out groundworks and clearance on the first day of installation should we deem it necessary but this may be chargeable so please do check with us before ordering your pod!

Walls & Insulation

The main frame of the O-Pod garden office is constructed of both box steel and timber. Then densely packed with 170mm recycled glass wool insulation ( or 75mm-100mm Kingspan Polyurethane

core for extra warmth; there is an additional option of 170mm of Thermafleece sheeps wool insulation).

The interior finish is comprised of plasterboard with a plaster skim and finished to your specification. The space-pod range (rectangular garden studios) structures are built entirely with FSC timber.

Flooring

The flooring is set out on a moisture resistant 18mm chipboard base which is supported on 100x50mm FSC Timber frame. 75mm of polystyrene insulation is used in the floor and beneath this there is an exterior breathable membrane to protect the pod from damp and frost.

Cladding

We use either PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) Western Red Cedar Shingles as the primary cladding on a circular O-Pod, and Thermowood T&G or PEFC Cedar on the rectangular Space Pods as they are naturally resistant to moisture, decay and insect damage and boast a life expectancy of up to 60 years. As a result these are ideal woods for outdoor applications. The even grain and relatively consistent density make Western Red Cedar less likely to swell, warp, cup, and twist than other soft or hardwoods.

Doors & Glazing

Both the circular O-Pod and the rectangular Space-Pod are fitted with a single solid hardwood single door as standard. We do also offer a choice of a partially glazed door or a fully glazed door (double-glazed and fabricated from toughened glass). Other options include twin French fully glazed doors or bi-folding sliding sash doors as an optional extra.

Windows

Our trademark Porthole windows are designed to emphasise the unique qualities of the O-Pod. The double glazed panes are made from toughened glass, with aluminium frames and supported within hand-formed glass reinforced polyester casements (GRP).

The window casements are hand formed with GRP for the maximum maintenance free life span and come in choice of colours to work with alongside your specifications.

Roof

The O-Pod comes with a standard GRP (Glass reinforced plastic) roof with a 900mm double glazed rooflight dome embedded within the centre for maximum light all year round. The Space Pod has a barrelled GRP roof as standard.

Flooring Options

A pod will come with flooring installed to your specification. Laminate flooring is always included but you may upgrade to engineered wood or solid wood flooring with underfloor heating.
