Frequently Asked Question

  • How long does it take to install a Pod in my garden?

We aim to have your pod installed and ready for use within 48hours of arriving in site.

Similarly, if you would like your pod dismantled and moved to a new location, we can do this in a similar timescale.  Just call us and we’ll be straight over to help you move your pod! (A transportation fee may apply)

Larger models (4m-6m O-Pods) may take an extra day.

  • Do you provide a bespoke furniture option for my pod?

Yes, we have a skilled carpenter who can build stunning bespoke desks, cabinets and drawers to work with your preferred interior style.

Most recently he crafted two full sized oak desks with in-built drawers and two mini-filing cainets intergrated within drawer fascias (for a 4m O-Pod).  It takes approximately 4 weeks to design and build your bespoke furniture.

We’d be only too happy to discuss furniture requirements for your garden office so please ask if you have any bespoke requirements!

  • Are there benefits to working in a round room?

    Certainly!

We have recently been contacted by a Feng Shui expert who was enthused about our O-Pods as a round room boasts incredible Feng Shui for a working environment. This is what she stated on her site:   www.luminous-spaces.com/unusual-work-spaces

“Energetically, round spaces have no build-up of stagnant chi (no corners) and allow for an even distribution of chi. As an office space this will allow great creativity, perfect for writing, design, or any other career that requires innovative ideas.  Offices are not the only use for these wondrous little spaces. It would also be a great meditation space!”

Sitting at the desk of an O-Pod really gives one a feeling of a being at your own ‘flight deck’; everything is instantly accessible and the space curves around you while you work.  It’s nothing but productive!

Radial designs have been hailed as cutting edge concepts within the Interior Design world and as such,  are often used in kitchens/spa environments as the organic shape and curvature of the walls promote movement and the flow of energy!

We provide free delivery within a 50-mile radius of our workshop in Manchester after which we will charge £2.50 per mile.   In the chance that the distance is in excess of 50 miles, we charge a standard overnight surcharge of £60 per installation team member.

Should you need additional features such as telephone sockets/additional lighting/bespoke furniture  we shall include the pricing in our quote.

A 25% deposit is required when you place your order with us to enable us to secure you the soonest manufacturing slot.  A 25% progress payment is required 3 working days before the installation date and the final balance must then be presented on the final day of installation by either cheque or printed receipt of  your electronic bank transfer.

  • Do I need planning permission?

Planning permission is usually not required for many garden rooms.  However it is specific to your location.  We can help you with guidance, please contact us.

Planning is now devolved in Wales, and has always been slightly different in Scotland from England.

There a wealth of information on the Planning Portal Website.

Please click here for guidance in England and Wales (Please select in top right hand corner)

As with any outdoor building, it is advisable to check ground suitability and access prior to ordering your Garden Office.  If you are not sure about planning you may wish to get a Lawful Development Certificate

In Scotland planning is essentially a local function, please click here to find your local planning authority

    As a guide in England

    Planning is not required if;

The O-Pod is built behind the principle elevation (i.e it can not usually be built between the road and your house)
The Maximum eves height is 2.5m and total overall height is under 4m (all O-Pods are)
If the O-Pod is situated within 2m of your boundary or your house the maximum height is  2.5m (all O-Pods are, some Space Pods do not fit within this – please check with us)
No more than half the area around the original house (not including extensions) can be covered with buildings – so if you already have a large extension (which may have been installed by a previous owner) and a small garden, you may need planning.

    If you live in a National Park, the Broads, World Heritage Site or an Area of Outstanding natural beauty;

If the O-Pod is to be built 20 meters away from your house or boundary, then it can have a floor area of 10m2 (i.e a 3M O-Pod could be built).
If you wish to build the O-Pod within 20 meters of you house or boundary or you want to have a larger O-Pod you will almost certainly need planning.

    As a guide for Wales

Cannot be built in front of the house – or within 20 meters of the highway (which ever comes first).
No higher than 3m  (All O-Pods and Space Pods fit within this).
No more than half the original land around the original house (not including extensions) can be covered with buildings.
If the building is greater than 10 cubic meters and within 5 meters of the house it is considered to be an extension.

    If you live in a National Park, World Heritage Site or an Area of Outstanding natural beauty;

The Building can not be greater than 10 cubic meters.

  • Installation

We appreciate that installation will be taking place in your garden and as such, we ensure that the installation of your O-Pod is incredibly quick, professional and with minimal disturbance to you.  In most cases the smaller O-Pods can be installed within one day (weather permitting) and you can be set up in your Garden Studio/office that very evening!

We ask that, should you need an electricity supply to your pod, that you contact your local electrician who can quickly run a sub-main cable from the house to your O-Pod or Space Pod and we can make the final connection.

Should you need to connect to the mains water supply you must inform us at the point of order and provide the service to the site so we can make the final connection.

We may require photos of the garden or other outdoor location prior to installation so we can check the suitability of access routes and ground suitability.

  • Can I link Pods together?

Any number of Pods can be linked together using a short curved corridor between each.

  • Can I have the Pod customised?

The O-Pod can be customised to suit the client’s particular requirements. The only limitation is one’s imagination. We would be pleased to discuss ideas and requirements with you.

  • How can you justify the use of polyurethane?

Our polyurethane is rated ZODP (zero ozone depletion potential). Of all commonly used types of insulation polyurethane is by far the best performer, giving the highest U value for a given thickness. It is by far the most common material used in industrial buildings, insulated fridge truck bodies etc. It is closed cell therefore imperious to moisture and will not develop or attract pest infestation. It is also a rigid material giving structural strength. When you consider its energy saving performance over its considerable lifetime this more than justifies its use in an eco build.

  • Ordering a Pod

Please call us on (0161) 9628485 or email us for a non-obligation quotation.

We may (dependent on your location) provide you with a free site survey to further discuss your requirements.

Should you be over 50 miles from our workshop, we may like to see some photographs of the site, and the access route prior to processing your order.

When we have found the perfect Garden Office for you, you may secure your manufacturing slot with a 25% deposit. We will then advise you of our lead times and current build schedule and aim to have your Garden Office installed within 14-21 working days of your deposit being received.  A 25% progress payment is requested prior to your installation (usually 48 hours before we are due to arrive at your property).

The final balance is then payable on installation.

  • Access

A minimum of 1m width and 3m height of access is required for the O-Pod which can be carried in even down an alleyway in flat sections.  Please check your access routes to the garden with us before ordering.

  • Are there any ‘hidden’ costs?

All of our garden rooms and garden offices are individually made to order, and as such, may be priced dependent on your chosen model plus any additional features you may have requested.

A standard 3m O-Pod with the standard fittings and full installation would start in the region of £9,600.00 (Inclusive of VAT)  The 3.1m x 3.3m Space Pod starts at £9,200.00 (Inclusive of VAT and installation)

We do not include free delivery unless you are within 50 miles of our workshop. We do this to ensure that our prices remain competitive and you pay for the building and not for inflated margins to cover all UK deliveries.  We may charge a marginal fee to cover overnight accomodation for our installation team as they are away from their home and families for over 24 hours.

We work our hardest to remain as transparent as possible through out the quotation process, the additional options you may choose to incorporate within your garden-building are shown on the ‘Pricelists’ page of this website.
